Press Conference on Greek Film Funding Policy

On 23 September 2024, the Hellenic Film Academy organized a press conference addressing the establishment of a new public body that will merge the Greek Film Centre and the National Centre for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME).

Following the identification of gaps regarding the operation and mandate of the new body, the Hellenic Film Academy issued a call for public intervention and information, focusing on the major issues that must be resolved in order for the new entity to fulfill its purpose—namely, to mark a new, creative chapter for National Cinema and for audiovisual production in Greece more broadly.

During the press conference, statements were delivered by the President of the Hellenic Film Academy, director Lefteris Charitos, along with Academy members from different professional fields: Giorgos Tsemperopoulos (director), Giorgos Karnavas (producer), Elina Psykou (director, producer), and Kora Karvouni (actress). Interventions were also made, among others, by the President and CEO of EKOME, Mr. Leonidas Christopoulos, and the Chairman of the Board of the Greek Film Centre, Markos Cholevas. The discussion was moderated by journalist and film critic Giannis Vasileiou and was attended by more than 100 invited guests.
